Toronto Police are warning jewellers, refiners, and cash-for-gold buyers to be on the lookout for distinct gold bars that were bought using a $1.9-million bank draft obtained through fraud.

Police say thieves purchased 75 10-oz. gold bars, 19 one-kg gold bars, and two 100-g. bars manufactured by Australia’s Perth Mint. Purchased in Montreal, the bars bear the mint’s symbols on the front and kangaroos on the back.

Police say someone attempted to sell the gold bars in Toronto on Feb. 14. Although two people have been arrested, the investigation continues.

The Canadian Bankers Association (CBA) is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for any information that leads to the arrest, conviction, and recovery of the gold bars.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808−7300 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222−TIPS (8477) or www.222tips.com. Tips can also be sent via text to CRIMES (274637) or through Facebook.
