Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has increased the number of scholarships available and locations offering courses.

Applications for Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA’s) scholarship program are now being accepted.

In addition to kicking off the program, GIA announced it is increasing how many scholarships it is offering and doubling the number of international locations where on-campus courses can be taken.

The deadline to submit applications is Oct. 30.

“We’re pleased to offer scholarship opportunities to new locations this year,” said GIA institute relations manager, Bev Berthoty. “GIA is committed to serving our constituents by ensuring the resources needed to obtain a gemmological or jewellery design education are more accessible globally.

“By maintaining the highest standards in academics, our goal is that scholarship recipients will one day flourish in their chosen fields and conduct themselves with integrity and professionalism.”

Courses range from lab and jewellery manufacturing arts to a graduate gemologist (GG) diploma. Students can apply online or at GIA campuses.

Scholarships are available for on-campus programs, distance education, and lab classes at GIA’s global headquarters in Carlsbad and New York City, along with international locations, including India, Hong Kong, London, Dubai, Taiwan, and Thailand.

The first GIA scholarship application cycle for 2012 runs now through Oct. 30 for on-campus, distance education, and lab classes. The second cycle, which runs from March 1 through April 30, 2012, is for distance education and lab classes only.
