Canadian distributor Creed Canada has acquired the jewellery division of M. Evenchick Jewellery.

The Gatineau, Que.-based pearl and wedding jewellery manufacturer closed its doors in June, citing a steady decline in business due to cheap offshore labour. At one point, the company had about 500 employees and more than 300 stores carried its lines of costume jewellery.

Creed Canada says the manufacturer’s trade names— M. Evenchick, Rachel, Moon Mist, Evco, and Debutant—are a good fit for its other lines.

“This new acquisition serves to complement and extend upon the strengths of our current jewellery lines: La Scala, D’Orlan, Nina Ricci, and Danish Canadian,” said Creed Canada vice-president Archie Allison. “It serves to solidify our position within the jewellery industry, as well as extend our offering to the bridal segment.”

Based in Kirkland, Que., Creed Canada specializes in fashion, silver, and gold jewellery.
