An alumnus of École de Gemmologie de Montréal (EGM) is now its new president and CEO.

Odile Civitello, EGM’s founder and president, has sold the school to Marie-Helene Corbin, a former student who is also a fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (FGA). Corbin completed her studies at EGM toward the Gem-A diploma in gemmology, also earning her an EGM diploma in gem and jewellery appraisal. She assumed the position of president and CEO on April 18.

Civitello opened EGM—Quebec’s first professional gemmology institute—in 1995.

“Having devoted over 20 years to the creation and development of the Montreal School of Gemmology, it is with great pride that I hand over the direction of what has become an internationally known and respected institute,” she said.

“I know the new owner shares my passion for gemmology and will continue to grow the school while maintaining the high standards of gemmology education that have become synonymous with EGM.

“I would also like to take this occasion to thank the teachers, support staff, partners, guest lecturers, sponsors, and many students who have believed in and supported me over the years. The growth and success of EGM and its programs would not have been possible without their efforts.”

Civitello says she has no plans to leave the industry and will continue to offer professional gem and jewellery appraisal services in Montreal.
