KP chair to address plenary at WDC annual meeting

Welile Nhlapo will be the guest of honour at the Ninth Annual Meeting of the World Diamond Council (WDC) set to take place in Tel Aviv from May 5 to 6.

Kimberley Process (KP) chair Welile Nhlapo will be the guest of honour at the Ninth Annual Meeting of the World Diamond Council (WDC).

The meeting will be held in Tel Aviv from May 5 to 6.

Nhlapo—who assumed the post of KP chair at the beginning of this year—will address the plenary session.

The former South African ambassador to Washington, D.C., has also served as national security special adviser to South African President Jacob Zuma. In addition, he was previously South Africa’s special representative to the Great Lakes countries, including Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Rwanda.

Tung-Lai Margue, director and head of the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission—the body that oversees KP compliance in the European Union—has also been confirmed and will address the plenary session.
