The search is on to find a replacement for Ruth Batson, CEO of American Gem Society (AGS) and AGS Laboratories (AGSL), following news she will retire next year.

“Ruth will be a tough act to follow and we appreciate she has provided ample notice so we can transition the new CEO under her guidance,” said Louis Smith (Smithworks Fine Jewelry), who is leading the committee to find Batson’s replacement.

“We are giving much thought and consideration to this search process. It’s important we find someone who is committed to the American Gem Society and AGS Laboratories’ mission of consumer protection.”

AGS says it has posted the job opening on its website, along with other career sites.

AGS members Scott Berg (Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry), Ed Bridge (Ben Bridge Jeweler), John Carter (Jack Lewis Jewelers), Mark Moeller (R.F. Moeller Jeweler), and Yancy Weinrich (JCK Shows) also sit on the committee.

To help with the search, AGS and AGS Laboratories have hired Carlson Beck, a non-profit executive search firm. To learn more about the position, contact Sally Carlson, managing partner at Carlson Beck, at (415) 433-2299 or e-mail her at sally@carlsonbeck.com. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 9.
