Rio Tinto Diamonds has appointed Jean-Marc Lieberherr as its managing director, diamonds.
An eight-year veteran of the company, Lieberherr previously served as its chief commercial officer (CCO). He takes up his new position on Sept. 1 and will be responsible for all aspects of Rio Tinto Diamonds’ business.
The new appointment comes as part of restructuring, following Rio Tinto’s decision to retain the diamonds business. Included in the restructure was the consolidation of diamond mining operations under Kim Truter, who will be appointed chief operating officer (COO) for the diamonds business and will report to Lieberherr.
Truter is currently managing director of the Argyle Diamond Mine, and was previously president of the Diavik Diamond Mine.
