Omega is counting down to the 2014 Olympic Games, starting with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its official pavilion in Sochi.
Swatch Group chief executive officer (CEO) Nick Hayek, Omega president Stephen Urquhart, International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach, and swimmer and IOC member Alexander Popov were on hand for the event.
“We are all here because of the athletes and because of sport,” Hayek said. “It’s not about politics; it’s about the emotion of sport. It’s worth all the effort to create [the Olympic Games] for the billions of people in the world.”
This is Omega’s 26th time serving as official timekeeper at the Games.
“Our partnership goes beyond timekeeping and it is beyond a sponsorship,” Bach said. “It is really based on sharing Olympic values and the wish to assist the athletes for a fair competition. This partnership and sharing of values is what we are looking for in the IOC.”
