GIA to hold career fair

SB_giaCalling all job seekers.

Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA’s) New York Jewelry Career Fair is set for July 28 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Javits Center. Recruiters will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Nearly 50 gem and jewellery companies, including David Yurman, Helzberg Diamonds, New York Loan Company, Paolo Costagli Inc., and Sterling Jewelers Inc., will be looking to fill hundreds of professional positions ranging from design and manufacturing to marketing and sales.

“Career Fair is an excellent opportunity not only to connect with recruiters looking to fill hundreds of positions, but to network with some of the most successful and entrepreneurial personalities in the gem and jewellery industry,” said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA vice-president and chief marketing officer (CMO), and founder of the GIA Jewelry Career Fair.

“You may even discover a career path you hadn’t thought of previously. This is a once-a-year opportunity in New York and I encourage everyone with a passion for jewellery to stop by and see what it’s about.”

In addition to meeting with recruiters and receiving one-on-one career coaching, attendees will hear from industry figures during the panel discussion, “Job Success in Today’s Market,” which begins at 8:30 a.m.

The panel features:

• Mercedes Abramo, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Cartier North America;

• Ashley Chan of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers;

• Andrea Hansen, partner of Luxe Intelligence and president of the Women’s Jewelry Association (WJA);

• Douglas K. Hucker, CEO of American Gem Trade Association (AGTA); and

• Steven Lagos, founder and chief creative director of LAGOS Jewelry.

The event is free and open to the public; anyone interested in attending is encouraged to RSVP.
