Statistics Canada reports Canadian retail jewellery sales grew to $310 million in October.

Jewellery retail sales are continuing to moderately climb.

The most recent data provided by Statistics Canada indicates the most significant gains in Canadian retail sales in October were driven by motor vehicle dealers and gas stations. However, jewellery was one of three other subsectors that experienced an increase.

According to Statistics Canada, retail sales at jewellery, luggage, and leather goods stores climbed to $310 million in October. This marks a two per cent increase between September and October and a 3.9 per cent increase over 2017.

Retail e-commerce sales continue to hold strong, growing 19.3 per cent year over year. In October, they accounted for $1.6 billion or three per cent of the total retail trade.

Retail sales numbers also fluctuated in most provinces. Statistics Canada highlights a 1.1 per cent increase in Ontario, which is continuing a six-month trend of improvement, as well as a 0.8 per cent increase in Québec. British Columbia also broke a flat streak with an increase of 0.4 per cent. Most of these changes are attributed to strong sales in the motor and gas industries, however.
