A fancy vivid yellow diamond weighing 71.26 carats is believed to be the largest of its kind ever discovered in Canada, Arctic Canadian Diamond Company reports.
The octahedron gem was recovered Aug. 25 from Arctic Canadian’s Ekati Mine Misery Pipe in the Northwest Territories.
“This historic fancy vivid yellow gemstone continues to showcase Canada as a major player on the world stage for diamond mining,” says the mining company’s president and CEO, Rory Moore. “Canadian diamonds are some of the most sought-after globally because of responsible mining practices and environmental stewardship. This stone is a testament to Ekati’s ability to deliver value now and into the future.”
