White Rock Jewellers in Surrey, B.C.’s Semiahmoo Shopping Centre recently faced the aftermath of another brazen robbery, marking the third to hit the business. The incident, which occurred in the early morning prior to opening, has left owner Andy Nguyen estimating losses surpassing $100,000.
“We want to cry. It is very hard to do business when (robberies) happen like that,” Nguyen told CTV News Vancouver, “They broke in and they took it all. The silver chains and the gold, and on the other side they took the pendants.”
The robbery was caught on the store’s security camera. The video, which has since been shared on Facebook, depicts four individuals in dark-coloured hooded sweatshirts, their hoods up and faces covered, storming into the store. They swiftly smash glass display cases and fill bags with jewellery.
Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers responded to the theft and searched the area with Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Services. However, the suspects had already fled the scene in a dark-coloured SUV.
“The Surrey RCMP Property Crime Unit has been engaged in this investigation and are actively working to identify and arrest the suspects,” said Cpl. James Mason. “The brazen action of these individuals is a concerning reminder of the impact criminals can have on our community.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact them.
