The woman regarded as the ‘Queen of Diamonds’ has resigned as Stornoway Diamond Corp.’s director and board chair.
Eira Thomas, who led the team that discovered the Diavik Mine in the Northwest Territories, announced she’s leaving the company to pursue other interests.
Her resignation comes shortly after the acquisition of the Renard Diamond Project in north-central Quebec.
“Having completed the acquisition of a 100 per cent interest in the Renard Diamond Project and having recently strengthened the board with the addition of three new excellent members, I believe the company is now in the strongest position it has been in for years,” Thomas said.
“Accordingly, I think this is an appropriate time for me to pass the torch as [chair]. I wish the company great success and I look forward to seeing the successful development of Renard, both for the company and its shareholders, and also for the people of Quebec.”
Tony Walsh replaces Thomas as board chair. He has served as a director of Stornoway since 2003, and has more than 20 years of experience in exploration, mining, and development.
