More than $1.2 million in gold and silver has been recovered in Toronto, following the arrest of four youths caught in the act of robbing a precious metals store.
The incident took place in the afternoon of Dec. 10, 2022, when three masked suspects entered a precious metals store on Bloor Street and committed a robbery with a firearm. The individuals obtained a large quantity of gold and silver, then made their way to a nearby vehicle where a fourth suspect was waiting.
Officers with York Regional Police were in the area as part of an ongoing investigation into the same suspects. They stopped the vehicle, which was determined to be stolen soon, and, soon after, arrested all four suspects without incident.
The stolen property has been returned to the precious metals dealer, police report.
Those charged include two 15-year-old males and two 17-year-old males, all from Toronto.
Investigators believe the suspects are part of a crime group that has been involved in a series of armed robberies at pharmacies, currency-conversion businesses, and precious metal stores since November 2022, York Regional Police report.
