133-carat yellow diamond dazzles at Sotheby’s auction

The largest fancy vivid yellow diamond to sell at auction recently passed through Sotheby’s New York. The top lot at the December Magnificent Jewels auction, the 133.03-carat diamond fetched more than C$7.4 million (US$5.5 million).

Solitaire ring featuring a 7.37-carat fancy intense orangy-pink diamond.

The unmounted cushion modified brilliant-cut gem with VS2 clarity was bought by diamond manufacturer Diacore. The company currently holds a partnership with Sotheby’s called “Sotheby’s Diamonds.” As per the venture, Diacore manufactures and markets diamonds exclusively for private sale at Sotheby’s London, New York, and Hong Kong locations.

In total, 74.5 per cent of the 137-lot Magnificent Jewels auction was sold, achieving more than C$52.1 million (US$38.4 million) in sales. Two coloured diamond rings were also listed amongst the items sold—a solitaire ring with a 7.37-carat fancy intense orangy-pink diamond and a toi et moi ring with a 3.68-carat fancy grey-violet diamond.
