Lucapa Diamond Co., has discovered a 171-carat white diamond at its Lulo Diamond Project in Angola’s Lunda Norte province.
The gem-quality stone is the 15th diamond larger than 100 carats recovered from the site since operations began in 2015 and the second of that size found this year.
The find was recovered from Lulo’s Mining Block 6, which has now produced six diamonds larger than 100 carats, including the 404-carat[2] ‘4th February Stone,’ which sold for US$16 mllion in 2016.
“The recovery of this 171-carat, gem-quality white diamond continues to underpin the potential of the kimberlite exploration programme as drilling of the high-priority kimberlites in the Canguige catchment continues,” says Lucapa’s managing director, Stephen Wetherall.
