IDMA president Moti Ganz made the announcement in Botswana, highlighting the advantages of holding the meeting in a diamond-producing country.
“Diamond manufacturers need to have a full understanding of where the diamonds they purchase and process are mined,” Ganz said. “Presidents’ meetings are perfect opportunities not only to discuss the particular issues and problems that concern our segment of the supply pipeline, but also to get to know the countries, mines, mining locations, governmental institutions, and companies involved.”
Ganz thanked Bhushan Vora, president of the Canadian Diamond Manufacturers Association (CDMA), and CDMA chief executive officer (CEO) Pierre Leblanc for the invitation to hold the meeting in Canada.
“Canada is the third-largest producer of gem diamonds by value in the world,” Vora noted. “Its vast [craton] provides outstanding potential for long-term diamond production. The Diamond Bourse of Canada (DBC)—launched in 2010—established the last missing link of the diamond pipeline in Canada. Canada now encompasses all the industry segments from exploration to a thriving consumer market.”
Dates and a location have yet to be announced.
