Providing jewellery retailers with the information required to enhance consumer confidence is the driving force behind Gem Certification & Assurance Lab[2]’s (GCAL’s) latest offering.
The New York-based lab has introduced proprietary certificates for its signature 8X Ultimate Diamond Cut Grade. The certificates, available for patented and specialty cuts, can be customized to include a client’s brand and logo.
“Today, diamonds are being designed and precisely faceted in patterns and shapes we would have once thought unimaginable,” says GCAL chief operating officer and co-owner, Angelo Palmieri. “We have experienced a great deal of interest in 8X cut grading on proprietary cut diamonds, and the stones coming through our lab are nothing short of sensational.”
Singapore-based retailer, JannPaul Diamonds, which has 10 proprietary diamond patents, is the first to collaborate on the certificates.
“We are always looking for ways to improve our customers’ experience and provide them with the best possible products and services,” says JannPaul’s founder and CEO, Paul Hung. “After 20 years of searching for a laboratory that can grade diamond cuts accurately, I have found GCAL, especially with its 8X cut grade, meets all the criteria I have been looking for. It allows consumers to look at a certificate, understand it, and walk away knowing they have purchased the most beautiful diamond.”
While fancy shape diamonds are typically graded for polish and symmetry only, GCAL’s standard, which was introduced in 2021, focuses on eight critical factors. These include:
The proprietary cut grades are possible for all shapes and faceting styles under the same eight categories, which helps visually, scientifically, and accurately demonstrate cut quality, GCAL reports. The approach brings a higher level of transparency to the process and helps consumers make informed purchasing decisions when selecting diamonds with optimal light performance.
“Consumers drive demand and with the new … proprietary certifications, jewellers will not only be able to differentiate with new products, but they’ll be able to keep up with the rapid shift in the demands of a new generation of consumers,” Hung says.
