Online giant Amazon.com[2] says its diamonds sales increased more than 100 per cent in the first four months of 2008, another example of the so-called ‘channel blur’ between jewellers and other retailers.

Stocking everything from pendants, stud earrings, and engagement rings, the company says it added more than 450 new diamond jewellery styles in the first quarter to keep up with demand.

“We are very pleased that more and more of our customers are discovering the huge selection and convenience of Amazon.com[2]‘s Jewelry and Watches store,” said Peter Lai, director of the Internet retailer’s Jewelry & Watches store. “In addition to everyday items like books, electronics, shoes, and beauty products, our customers are increasingly purchasing luxury goods, like diamonds, on Amazon.com[2] as well.”

In addition to diamond jewellery, shoppers are also snapping up brand name timepieces, from Movado, Seiko, and Invicta.

Amazon.ca[3]—the Canadian site—does not offer jewellery or watches.
