Angola’s diamond production reached a record 12 million carats in 2024, marking the first time the country has surpassed the 10 million-carats milestone. The country’s diamond production comes from several key mines, including Catoca, Lulo, and Leule.
As per Rapaport, Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas Diamantino Azevedo attributes the surge in output to recent legal and tax reforms aimed at improving transparency and attracting investment.
In addition to increased output, Angola is advancing other projects in the sector, such as plans for a diamond exchange, a gold refinery in Luanda, and a manufacturing center in Namibe Province. Azevedo commented, “We are starting to see some trees blossom and harvest some fruit from the seeds sown from 2017.”
