The countdown to implementation of new anti-money laundering (AML) regulations is underway and the government group in charge of overseeing them is taking the message across the country.
Financial Transactions Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) will present the ins and outs of the regulations in several information sessions being held in major cities.
Taking effect on Dec. 30, the new rules are meant to combat the bankrolling of organized crime and terrorism.
The two-hour sessions will provide a detailed overview of the new rules—which are applicable to dealers of precious metals and stones—and will be held in the following cities:
• Montreal, Oct. 16 at 9 am (French) and 1 pm (English) at the Hilton Bonaventure;
• Halifax, Oct. 17 at 9 am (English) at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront;
• Edmonton, Oct. 20 at 9 am (English) at the Edmonton Marriott;
• Vancouver, Oct. 21 at 9 am (English) at Simon Fraser University at Harbour Centre; and
• Toronto, Oct. 27 at 9 am (English) at the Metropolitan Hotel.
Space is limited and the sessions are free of charge. To sign up, visit

Similar presentations in the form of webinars will also be available on FINTRAC’s website.
