Police in Nairobi have arrested a man believed to be the mastermind behind the attack that took the life of Campbell Bridges, former director of the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA).
Days after an emotional tribute to Campbell Bridges during the Tucson gem shows, police in Nairobi have arrested the alleged mastermind behind the world-famous gemmologist’s murder.

The International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) reports that a witness to the attack apprehended Daniel M. Mnene on Feb. 8 and held him until police arrived.

Bridges, his son, Bruce, and four others were attacked by a mob in Taita Taveta District in Tsavo National Park last summer. Bridges was stabbed to death. The accused is believed to be behind the attempted takeover of Bridges’ mining rights.

Reports indicate the witness was part of Bridges’ private security force. He was also beaten and stabbed by the mob that attacked Bridges.

Details of the exact charges were unavailable at press time.

On Feb. 3, the ICA—of which Bridges was director and a founding member—held a tribute attended by the gemmologist’s family and friends, along with more than 300 people from the international gemstone community.
