Art Nouveau pieces, natural pearls smash estimates at Canadian auction

Demand continues to be strong for pearl pieces and antique treasures, if the results of Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers’ recent sale are anything to go by.
At the company’s Fall Important Jewels auction[1], which was held online last Nov. 16 to 23, several items with such distinction performed exceptionally well against pre-sale estimates.
Among the most anticipated lots was an 18-karat gold Art Nouveau ring[2] (circa 1900), featuring a 2.5-carat emerald, a 1.5-carat yellow marquise-cut diamond, a trio of old mine-cut diamonds (2.65 ctw), and a pear-shape double-rose-cut diamond. The Marcus & Co. ring[3] achieved a hammer price of $40,000.
Other pieces to receive interest include a set of pearl drop-earrings[4], which sold for $22,000 against a pre-sale estimate of $6,000 to 8,000, and a 4.93-carat blue sapphire ring[5], which fetched $60,000 (10 times its estimate).
Additionally, a pair of old European-cut diamond earrings[6] achieved a final bid of $85,000 ($35,000 beyond their estimate), while a 4.42-carat emerald-cut diamond[7] sold for $100,000.
