B.C. gold fraud arrest speaks to larger issue, RCMP says

Two individuals suspected of being involved with a ‘sophisticated gold fraud operation’ have been apprehended in Richmond, B.C.
On March 19, a man notified police after he was approached on the street by another man and woman and asked to purchase gold for cash. The man declined and suspected the gold to be fake.
Three days later, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) arrested two suspects and executed search warrants, which offered evidence suggesting the pair were part of a larger gold fraud operation. A stash of fake gold jewellery and other items were seized.
“We are very pleased to have made such significant progress on our investigation so quickly,” says Corporal Ian Henderson of the Richmond RCMP. “Our investigation involved the co-operation and co-ordination of several specialized police units.”
Gold fraud operations appear to be an issue across Canada, RCMP investigators warn. Suspicious activity should be reported to the police or Crime Stoppers.
