A one-of-a-kind necklace valued at more than $250,000 is up for grabs at Vancouver’s Lugaro Jewellers.
Designed by Toronto-based Reena Ahluwalia, ‘Canoe’ took top honours at Rio Tinto Diamonds’ Global Design Competition in the ‘Canadian Diamonds’ category with its symbolism of voyage, discovery, harmony with nature, and courage. The necklace was inspired by the image of a canoe on an icy lake and features 28.96 carats of ideal square-cut Canadian diamonds set in 18-karat white gold.
“What better way to demonstrate the beauty and history of Canadian diamonds than with a [design] inspired by the First Nations heritage? We are honoured to showcase this pristine piece in our stores,” said Steve Agopian, president of Lugaro Jewellers.
‘Canoe’ will be showcased at Lugaro’s Park Royal South location in West Vancouver, B.C. until Nov. 22.
“Celebrating the magic and beauty of Canada, my home, is the inspiration for my design,” said Ahluwalia. “The canoe is a carrier of Canadian myths, a symbol very unique to Canada that represents voyage, harmony with nature, discovery, and courage. It is one of the greatest gifts the First Nations people gave to all those who came after. A crystalline perspective, this necklace hopes to capture the luminous magic of the True North.”
The necklace is a collaboration with Crossworks Manufacturing, which sponsored its production and provided the Canadian diamonds.
