BaselWorld is the newest official supporter of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC). About 100,000 people attend the watch and jewellery show each year.

BaselWorld is now an official supporter of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).

The watch and jewellery show, which attracts more than 100,000 buyers worldwide, is the first trade fair to align itself with the council.

“We are keen to assist our exhibitors in this crucial goal of [ensuring] consumer confidence and believe that our support of the Responsible Jewellery Council will achieve this objective,” said BaselWorld managing director Sylvie Ritter. “Through the council, we seek to ensure the responsible and ethical advancement of the industry.”

In other BaselWorld news, the show received the 2010 Global Anti-Counterfeiting Group (GACG) Award for its work in the protection of intellectual property.

Presented in Paris, the ‘Trophée de ‘Authentique’ highlighted special recognition of the BaselWorld Panel, an internal tribunal operating at the trade show that provides arbitration within a day on complaints of rights infringements to a design, trademark, or invention patents. It also decides whether a violation of copyrighted products has occurred. While the decisions are not binding outside the show, the panel’s findings often have an impact on further complaints.
