Luxury retailer Birks has donated $42,500 to Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
The gift is based on a portion of the proceeds of the sale of its Vancouver 2010 Olympic jewellery, gifts, and accessories.
“Birks involvement in the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games has surpassed all of our expectations,” said Thomas Andruskevich, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Birks & Mayors Inc. “We are happy to be able to continue to support our Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes as they strive for excellence and innovation, these being core values that guide our company.”
Andruskevich presented the cheque to Marcel Aubut, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC).
“We are so thrilled to accept this generous gift in support of our Canadian athletes,” said France Chrétien Desmarais, president of the Canadian Olympic Foundation (COF). “[Birks] made it possible to bring home a beautiful keepsake of the Games, while helping our athletes achieve their dreams.”
Birks was the official jewellery supplier for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
