Bourne to lead Sotheby’s watches

Auction house Sotheby’s has named Tim Bourne as worldwide head of its watches department.

His appointment comes in response to the rapid global expansion of the auction market for watches, particularly in Asia.

Based in Hong Kong, Bourne will be responsible for Sotheby’s Asia’s watch auctions, along with those in Geneva, New York City, and London. The 20-year veteran is no stranger to Asia; he helped establish Sotheby’s watch auctions there in 1997.

“With his insight into our truly international market, Tim will add invaluable experience as we make further investment in our global business especially in Asia, an important hub of growth and great opportunities in today’s watch auction market,” said Kevin Ching, Sotheby’s Asia’s chief executive officer (CEO).

“Sotheby’s international watches team has built an outstanding global business with worldwide success,” said Daryn Schnipper, chair of the watch division for Sotheby’s International. “With Tim joining us, our international team will continue to bring exceptional watches to our clients with the highest levels of scholarship and service, both at auction and in private sales.”
