Members of the Diamond Bourse of Canada (DBC) can now drop off diamonds for certification and receive same-day grading.
This is just one of the services available, as the bourse ramps up to be fully operational by the end of this month.
Canada’s first diamond exchange celebrated its grand opening in January and since then, staff have been hard at work preparing the space for members to do business in what is the world’s 29th diamond bourse.
“Apart from offering secretarial and other technical services, we want the bourse floor to be a source of education, where members can attend seminars and lectures about diamonds and related areas of interest,” said DBC president Bhushan Vora.
The bourse’s technological centre features several pieces of equipment, including a proportion and cut grading machine, an instrument for indicating synthetic and high pressure/high temperature (HPHT) diamonds, a gemmological microscope, and a colour grading machine.
Bourse officials say the customs bonded warehouse is expected to be in service by next week. Members can inspect diamonds or bring a customer in to preview them before clearing the goods through customs.
