Mumbai’s Liberty Cinema got a little taste of Canadiana when designer Reena Ahluwalia’s ‘Courageous Spirit’ took to the red carpet.
Worn by Australian-born Indian actress, Pallavi Sharda, the pendant is a rotating diamond-encrusted disk of more than 25 carats inspired by a compass and symbolizing the abundance of diamonds at Rio Tinto’s Bunder Project. The collection was designed as a tribute to the women of Madhya Pradesh, where Toronto-based Ahluwalia hails from.
“I am honoured to wear Rio Tinto’s beautiful diamond jewels, dedicated to the pioneering spirit of the women of Madhya Pradesh, who are so much a part of the Bunder project’s development,” Sharda said.
Rio Tinto says community consultation has been key to its efforts in the area since Bunder’s discovery in 2004. The project is expected to come into production in 2017, and may make Madhya Pradesh one of the top 10 diamond-producing regions of the world.
