Vancouver-based jewellery designer Andrew Costen garnered recognition as a finalist at the Bench Jewelers Passion Awards.
Featuring 19-karat white gold, Costen’s handmade ‘Sapphire Vise’ cufflinks caught the judges’ attention with their natural blue and yellow gem-quality sapphire crystals.
Heavily influenced by the shape and style of the gem with which he’s working, Costen says he wanted to showcase the stones and allow them to be viewed from all angles.
Entries are judged by industry experts on the basis of technical excellence and creativity; unique and original thought; use of materials; comfort and function as a wearable piece of art; and ability to be marketed and sold.
Held by BW Simon International, the awards were handed out at the Bench Jewelers Conference last month in St. Louis, Mo.
Costen has won more than 30 design awards during his career.
