A who’s who of the Canadian jewellery industry converged on Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York Hotel for the 58th annual Canadian Jewellers 24 Karat Club gala dinner.
Members and their guests—including Jewellery Business publisher and 24 Karat Club member, Erik Tolles, and managing editor, Jacquie De Almeida—gathered in the elegant Imperial Room for the fête, billed as the Canadian jewellery industry’s social event of the year.
The gala—held on Oct. 24—also coincides with the group’s annual general meeting (AGM), which saw the following three new members inducted into the club:
· Stephen Cooper of Rembrandt Charms (Scarborough, Ont.);
· Elizabeth Maggisano of Finch Centre Jewellers (Woodbridge, Ont.); and
· Frank Murdocca of Amden/Traders Jewellery (Toronto).
“I would like to thank all those who attended the 58th annual gala of the Canadian Jewellers 24 Karat Club for making it another success,” said its president, Jay Cameron.
“From reception, dinner, entertainment, and finally the after-hours party, the comradery and fellowship was enjoyed by all in keeping with 24 Karat Club tradition. I look forward to seeing you all again at the 59th annual gala.”
Following the dinner, Montreal duo Bowser & Blue delighted the crowd with their political and cultural satire set to music.
Founded in 1957, the Canadian Jewellers 24 Karat Club was designed to be a fellowship that brought together members, retailers, and suppliers in a social environment. Although it was originally Ontario-based, the club now has members across the country. Membership—which is capped at 75 active members—is by invitation-only.
In other AGM news, the following were named to the executive for the coming year:
· Jay Cameron, vice-president of sales and marketing at Fiori Watch Canada, as president;Â
· Darrell King, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Gunther Mele, as vice-president;
· Charles Baudinet, owner of Lumigem Canada, as treasurer;
· Jason Kelly, president and CEO of Cachet Consulting & Management Services, as secretary; and
· Gino DeVuono, director at Specialty Watch Resource, as immediate past-president.
DeVuono offered his congratulations to Cameron, King, and Baudinet.
“The Canadian Jewellers 24 Karat Club is in very capable hands for the future,” he said. “It is a wonderful social club with truly inspiring members, enjoying friendship, fellowship, and camaraderie!
“The 24 Karat Club is steeped in tradition and history that goes back to 1957, and I would like to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve as its 57th president. It has been a privilege working with the board for the past three years, and I look forward to being a part of it as immediate past-president.”
In addition to Baudinet, Haigo Derian of DerKar Group, Wojtek Jaskowiak of Gresham Jewellers, and Eric Senftleben of Citizen Watch Co., were appointed to the board of directors for 2016.
