Alex Barcados, president of C.D. Barcados in Toronto, has been named to Jewelers Mutual’s board of directors.
“I am honoured to be selected and excited about the opportunity to work alongside the calibre of people on the board, and to contribute to Jewelers Mutual’s continued success as we approach our 100-year anniversary in 2013,” Barcados said.
“In so many ways, Jewelers Mutual is as much a part of the jewellery industry as the insurance industry. Jewelers Mutual’s presence in Canada is a benefit to our entire Canadian industry, and having Canadian input at the strategic level is very important. I feel a responsibility to Canadian jewellery industry members to effectively represent them and contribute to Jewelers Mutual’s success in Canada.”
C.D. Barcados is a coloured gemstone wholesaler. The announcement came at the insurers’ annual policyholder meeting in August.
The two other new board members are:
• Jon Bridge, co-chief executive officer and general counsel for Ben Bridge Jeweler in Seattle, Wash.; and
• Craig Underwood, president of Underwood’s Jewelers in Fayetteville, Ark.
“You’ll notice each new board member is an established member of the jewellery industry,” said Darwin Copeman, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of Jewelers Mutual.
“That’s unique to Jewelers Mutual and something we are very proud of. No other insurance company can say it is more closely involved with the jewellery industry than Jewelers Mutual.”
