Inspired by searching for corundum in streams near the town of Sapphire, N.C. with her grandparents, St. John is manager of John Anthony Jewellers and a home study student at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
“Appraisers are curators of prehistory as they consider gemstones through their microscopes and have much to reveal about the human civilizations behind the decorative art of jewellery,” she said.
The grant covers the cost of attending NAJA’s annual ACE It Winter Educational Conference, which will be held Jan. 30 to 31 in Tucson, Ariz.
The scholarship also provides the opportunity to network with appraisal professionals during the Tucson gem shows and learn from expert speakers and presenters.
