Calculated from the responses of 2504 Canadians, the survey results indicate 74 per cent of spending this holiday season will occur at brick-and-mortar locations. Online shopping via computer or tablet will take up 20 per cent of the season’s spending, with online shopping via mobile device coming last at only six per cent.

The survey points to Black Friday as the most popular shopping day of the season, with 40 per cent of respondents saying they intended to take advantage of the day’s deals. Boxing Day was a close second at 35 per cent, with Cyber Monday bringing up the rear at 30 per cent. In-store spending was ranked as the most popular option for both Black Friday and Boxing Day shoppers, although e-commerce naturally took the lead for Cyber Monday.

In addition to prioritizing the in-store shopping experience this holiday season, Canadians are also emphasizing the importance of shopping local. In total, 87 per cent of respondents said it is important to buy from Canadian retailers during the holidays.
