‘The Annenberg Diamond’ will lead Christie’s fall auction. The 32.01-carat D-colour, flawless diamond is estimated at $3 to $5 million.

A 32.01-carat diamond named ‘The Annenberg Diamond’ is expected to fetch up to $5 million US when it leads Christie’s ‘Jewels: The New York Sale’ auction in October.

Featuring a square emerald cut, the D-colour, flawless diamond is mounted as a ring, and is accompanied by two pear-shaped diamonds weighing 1.50 and 1.61 carats. Manhattan jeweller David Webb designed the ring.

“The Annenberg Diamond of 32.01 carats combines the best of the 4 Cs: top colour, perfect clarity, ideal cut, and excellent weight,” said François Curiel, chair of Christie’s Europe. “And if you add to this the impeccable provenance of the Annenberg name, you have one of the finest gems to appear on the market for many years.”

The Annenberg Diamond belonged to the late Leonore ‘Lee’ Annenberg, an art collector and philanthropist married to Walter H. Annenberg, a newspaper publisher, broadcaster, diplomat, and philanthropist. The couple entrusted billions of dollars to institutions devoted to education and the arts.

The Annenberg Diamond will go on tour prior to the auction, making stops in Geneva, London, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and New York.
