The beeps of medical equipment are a constant reminder for families of children with a serious illness or injury. But a donation from the Canadian Jewellery Group (CJG) to Ronald McDonald Houses through Mike’s Miracles is aiming to help them cope better.
The non-profit organizations received a donation of $17,564 last month raised through a drive held during the Canadian Jewellery Group Buying Show in Toronto. Proceeds of CJG’s first annual silent auction generated $9981, while a scrap gold drive raised $7583.
The donation will be divided among 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada, which provide a home away from home for the families of seriously ill children who are staying at a nearby hospital.
The money will also benefit Mike’s Miracles, which was started by 12-year-old Mike VandenDool, son of CJG president Brian VandenDool. Mike founded the organization near the end of his 17-month battle with a severely aggressive and rare form of cancer. The organization is dedicated to helping children battling cancer, as well as providing much-needed support to their families.
Brian VandenDool, co-founder of Mike’s Miracles, said the support of participating members and suppliers was greatly appreciated. “This spectacular achievement could have not been possible without your great generosity—thank you!”
