The price of colour diamonds saw an increase in the past year, with yellows and pinks leading the way.
This is according to a new report from the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF)[2], which details the results of the Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) in 2022.
The index, which is based on pricing details collected for blue, pink, and yellow diamonds traded in Hong Kong, New York, and Tel Aviv, showed an average price increase of 3.9 per cent for diamonds in all fancy colour categories in the past year. This climb was in contrast to the annual decline in white diamonds and other major financial markets, FCRF reports.
Specifically, yellows and pinks led the price increase, raising by 4.6 per cent and 3.9 per cent, respectively, while blue prices rose 1.8 per cent.
“2022 was a very good year for yellow fancy colour diamonds in all sizes and saturations,” says FCRF data supplier, Israel Papushado. “It seems like yellow diamonds with high visual grades and in certain shapes increased by more than what is reflected in the Index. Pink fancy-colour diamonds performed with no significant change in comparison to previous years; however, blue diamonds did not perform as expected—probably due to limitations in the Chinese market, which looks like it will change very soon.”
