The price of colour diamonds saw an increase in the past year, with pinks and blues leading the way.
This is according to a new report from the Fancy Color Research Foundation (FCRF), which details the results of the Fancy Color Diamond Index (FCDI) in 2021.
The index, which is based on pricing details collected for blue, pink, and yellow diamonds traded in Hong Kong, New York, and Tel Aviv, showed an average price increase of 1.7 per cent for diamonds in all fancy colour categories in the past year, a market recovery from the decrease seen in 2020, FCRF reports.
Specifically, blues and pinks led the price increase, climbing 2.2 per cent and 2 per cent, respectively, while yellow prices rose 0.9 per cent.
Additionally, average prices for fancy vivid colour diamonds rose 1.6 per cent. Fancy intense diamonds in all colours and sizes increased by an average of 1.8 per cent (with the exception of fancy intense yellow 1.5 and 5 carats, which fell 1.3 per cent and 1 per cent, respectively).
“The steady increase of the Fancy Color Diamond Index is more evidence of the stability of this luxury category,” says FCRF advisory board member, Ephraim Zion. “We see more people buying these beautiful natural diamonds while their supply diminishes.”
