Industry experts will gather at JCK Las Vegas for a panel discussion on conflict diamonds and the Kimberley Process (KP).

The Kimberley Process (KP) and the state of trading conflict diamonds will be put in the spotlight at a panel discussion hosted by the World Diamond Council (WDC) at JCK Las Vegas.

Entitled “Diamond Dialogue—the Kimberley Process and Consumer Confidence,” the event will present a snapshot of the campaign to put a stop to conflict diamonds. The panel will also look at the current state of the KP, measures needed to improve its implementation, and new initiatives being developed by the system to ensure consumer confidence.

The panel will be made up of WDC president Eli Izhakoff; Brad Brooks-Rubin, U.S. State Department; Matt Runci, president of Jewelers of America and board chair of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC); Cecilia L. Gardner, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC); Noora Jamsheer of the UN Panel of Experts on Cote D’Ivoire; John Hall, corporate relations manager at Rio Tinto; and representatives of NGOs active in the industry.

Dorothee Gizenga, director of the Diamond Development Initiative International (DDII), will moderate.

The discussion takes place on June 3 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the Titian Room 2201 on Level 2 of the Venetian/Palazzo Congress Center.

The Diamond Information Center (DIC) is sponsoring the event.
