At 220 m long, 90 m wide, and 32 m high, BaselWorld’s new complex provides 74,000 m2 of exhibition space.

Construction on BaselWorld’s new hall complex is complete and work will now begin on assembling exhibitor stands for the fair’s opening.

More than 22 months and thousands of tonnes of steel and concrete later, BaselWorld’s doors will swing open on April 25, a culmination of one of the biggest investments ever made in Switzerland’s exhibition industry.

The project’s general contractor handed over the 74,000-m2 hall to show organizer, MCH Basel Exhibition, on Feb. 8, on schedule and according to plan.

“The new building developed by architects Herzog & de Meuron combines functionality and esthetics in the ideal manner,” said MCH Basel Exhibition in a press release.

“The compact exhibition site makes for flexible management and offers visitors a high level of comfort and convenience. At the same time, the new building constitutes an impressive architectural visiting card. The built-over section of the Exhibition Square with its striking atrium—the so-called City Lounge—will become a new and attractive centre for the exhibition ground.”
