Seasoned and novice designers alike are invited to submit submissions for the 14th annual International Pearl Design Competition (IPDC).

Organized by the Cultured Pearl Association of America (CPAA), the contest celebrates the prowess of jewellers worldwide when it comes to designing with cultured pearls. Both international designers and those based in the United States are invited to enter, although international submissions must consist of renderings, computer-aided design (CAD) drawings, or sketches rather than finished pieces.

Entrants will be considered across all categories, with live judging taking place on Nov. 30. Honours include the President’s Trophy, celebrating the piece deemed the most couture and one-of-a-kind original design concept, the Luster Award, recognizing a marketable pearl jewellery concept with wide appeal, and the Visionary Award for Classic Styles, which champions a fresh look for an iconic pearl style, be it strands, studs, bracelets, or a ring.

Additionally, this year’s Spotlight Award highlights multi-colour combinations of pearls (three or more together).

“CPAA is excited to see what artists will submit this year,” says the association’s president, Anil Maloo. “This marks the 14th year of our competition, and we continue to be wowed by the creativity of entrants.”

American entrants must be prepared to sell their piece at the store of the association’s retail partner, the Aaron Faber gallery in New York City, if it reaches finalist or winner status, CPAA says.

The deadline for submissions is Nov. 3. For more, click here.

New this year, the association is offering an early bird discount for completed entries received by Aug. 18. Participants can use the coupon code EARLYBIRD to get a discount of 22 per cent.
