Diavik president and chief operating officer (COO) Niels Kristensen says its safety record was one of the factors that helped the mine make Canada’s Top 100 Employers.

Rio Tinto’s Diavik Diamond Mine in the Northwest Territories has been named one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for the second year in a row.

“Diavik has accomplished so much in its relatively short history, from significant engineering feats through to accolades for its commitment to sustainable development,” said president and chief operating officer (COO) of Diavik Diamond Mines, Niels Kristensen.

“None of these would have occurred without the team at Diavik being focused on the health, safety, and welfare of all employees. Being recognized as a top employer for two consecutive years reflects our desire to ensure Diavik remains an employer of choice, both in Canada and in the diamond industry.”

More than 15,000 companies were invited to apply. Participants are evaluated on the basis of criteria like physical workplace, employee benefits, employee communications, training and development, performance management, and community involvement.
