Dimples launches consumer design platform

SB_dimplesCanadian brand Dimples Jewellery is helping turn shoppers into designers through its new consumer-facing computer-assisted design (CAD) platform and 3-D printed products.

Whether on its website or through interactive design bar kiosks located at participating retailers, consumers can create engraved, personalized pieces of jewellery in various metals.

According to Dimples owners, Jeffrey Ross and Patti Moloney, studies show 30 per cent of consumers want to customize their products and become more brand-loyal when given the opportunity to do so.

“Consumers want the gifts they give to be personal and meaningful. Dimples gives people the opportunity to create the most heartfelt gifts worldwide,” says Moloney, who along with her husband, Jeffrey Ross, is a regular contributor to Jewellery Business.

Dimples 2.0 allows customers to create personalized charms via digital media options, including:

• Dimples Doodles for drawings;

• Love Notes for handwritten sentiments;

• Photo Booth for photographs; and

• Prints Charming for prints of loved ones or family pets.

The plug-and-play system allows retailers to offer mass customization without incurring traditional costs for inventory, design labour, procurement, and manufacturing. All products are manufactured locally and retailers can recoup their initial investment for the interactive kiosk by receiving a royalty for every purchase made.
