Dubai is set to host the 2008 Congress of CIBJO, the World Jewellery Confederation, a clear indication of the emirate’s growing presence on the global jewellery stage.
Held for the first time in the Middle East, the three-day event addresses the worldwide outlook on various industry issues.
The gathering is being held under the patronage of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC).
In other news from the region, the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), a subsidiary of DMCC, announced it was expanding its platform to include retail memberships throughout the area. In doing so, DDE becomes the single market interface for all diamond traders, which includes wholesalers, retailers, and ancillary service providers. The move is expected to facilitate the integration of foreign companies wanting to do business in the region. According to DMCC and DDE, the Middle East is the third largest market for diamond jewellery.
