A student from the Montreal School of Gemmology (EGM) has been awarded the Chubb Prize for Excellence.
Alice Renfer, a Swiss native who came to Montreal to study gemmology and appraising at EGM, received the honour, which goes to a student who achieves outstanding results in the school’s gem and jewellery appraisal course.
“This course is an intensive and demanding program with an emphasis on practical hands-on exercises designed to prepare gemmologists for the particular challenges of appraisal work,” said EGM president and founder, Odile Civitello.
Renfer also completed the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) diploma preparatory course.
Richard Drucker, president of Gemworld International, awarded the prize on behalf of Chubb Insurance at a reception organized by EGM in the United Kingdom. Members of EGM staff, as well as students, their families, and friends, were on hand to receive their diplomas in gemmology from Gem-A at the annual graduation ceremony.
