A pink diamond ring stole the show at Christie’s New York’s Magnificent Jewels auction—surpassing its estimated value to bring in US$13.3 million (C$18.2 million). The ring, called the Eden Rose, features a 10.20-carat round brilliant, fancy-intense pink, internally flawless type IIa diamond as its centrepiece, complemented by a surrounding ensemble of eight pear brilliant-cut diamonds and two marquise brilliant-cut diamonds.
Coloured diamonds dominated the New York auction, with six of the top 10 pieces showcasing these rare gems. Other popular pieces were from renowned design houses such as Bulgari, Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and Van Cleef & Arpels. According to Rapaport, the auction sold 90 per cent of lots, amassing a total of US$44.4 million (C$60.8 million).
Rahul Kadakia, international head of jewellry at Christie’s, says, “Collectors participated actively in all areas of the sale, paying strong prices for rare colored gemstones and natural pearls in particular.”
