A former president of Valentino S.p.A. has been named to the helm of Fiera di Vicenza.

Matteo Marzotto—who currently leads Fondazione CUOA, a prominent business school in Italy—has been appointed president by the fair’s board of directors. He comes to the role with extensive experience in the fashion industry, having worked within his family’s group of companies in the textile and clothing sector for 15 years.

From 2003 to 2008, Marzotto served first as chief operations officer (COO) and then as president of Valentino. In January 2009, he acquired and subsequently re-launched the haute-couture Vionnet fashion house, serving as its president until January 2013.

He has served as president of the non-profit organization, Associazione Progetto Marzotto since October 2012, and has held the same position with the Mittelmoda Fashion Awards since September 2008. Marzotto takes over from Stefano Stenta, who was appointed legal representative following the abrupt resignation of Paolo Mantovani. He had accused the fair’s general manager, Corrado Facco, of “private” negotiations with the Hong Kong Jewelry & Jade Manufacturers Association (HKJJA) regarding placement of its booth. An internal review found no wrong doing on Facco’s part.

In addition to Marzotto’s appointment, the following new members were also named to the board:
• Michele Amenduni, vice-president and managing director of Acciaierie Valbruna;
• Renato Corrà, managing partner of clothing company, Corrà 1789 Srl;
• Romano Cappellari, marketing professor at the University of Padua;
• Ester Furlan, manager of the multinational company, The Boston Consulting Group;
• accountant Angela Peretto; and
• Stefano Stenta, president of fashion company, Atelier Stimamiglio Srl.
