The 2015 Lewton-Brain Foldform Competition is now accepting entries for its annual competition.
Hosted by the Center for Metal Arts in Florida, N.Y., the contest invites submissions that illustrate the evolution of foldforming as a technique.
Invented by Canadian master goldsmith Charles Lewton-Brain, foldforming uses sheet material to produce rapid development of 3D surfaces and structures, creating the appearance of origami and forgework.
Submissions must be received by June 15.
Lewton-Brain, Hanuman Aspler, owner/co-founder of The Ganoksin Project, and Hazel Wheaton, editor of Art Jewelry magazine, will judge the entries. Rio Grande, Art Jewelry, and The Ganoksin Project are sponsoring the competition.
Prizes for first, second, and third place, as well as an honourable mention, include Rio Grande gift certificates, a one-year subscription to Art Jewelry, and a small foldformed object crafted by Lewton-Brain. An innovation award is also available at the jury’s discretion. Additional entries are recognized in a Jurors’ Choice round.
Art Jewelry will present winning entries in a print issue and special online gallery again this year, while The Ganoksin Project will share results on its website. A YouTube video recognizing winning entries and Jurors’ Choice selections will also be developed.
Winners will be announced July 24 at the annual Foldform Awards Dinner at the Seligmann Center for the Arts in Sugar Loaf, N.Y. The event coincides with Lewton-Brain’s annual workshop. For more information, visit www.centerformetalarts.com/foldform-competition.html.
