Forbes magazine editor-in-chief Steve Forbes is delivering the keynote address at the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA’s) Symposium 2011.

Held at GIA headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., Symposium will cover a wide range of topics such as consumer behaviour, luxury marketing, design trends, social media, new gem localities, and advances in gemstone treatments and technology. The social, political, and ethical issues surrounding the production and distribution of gems and jewellery will also be discussed.

“We are extremely pleased to have Mr. Forbes serve as our keynote speaker,” said GIA vice-president and chief marketing officer (CMO), Kathryn Kimmel, who is also co-chair of Symposium. “He is a significant touch point in the global business landscape, which ideally positions him to address some of the most important business issues facing our industry today. Attendees will be challenged to think strategically and expand both the scope and geography of their business, which is necessary in today’s economic environment. Mr. Forbes’ commitment to leadership and success, along with his global economic insight, are sure to leave a lasting impression.”

The author of several books on leadership, economics, and capitalism, Forbes is the only writer to have won the Crystal Owl Award for accurate economic forecasting four times. In 1996 and 2000, he campaigned for the American presidency. Symposium 2011 will be held May 29 to 30 and marks GIA’s 80th anniversary.
